October 2020
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Trump administration approves the original Pathways to Coverage program 1115 demonstration waiver.
December 2021
CMS under the Biden administration withdraws approval for the work requirement and premium payments.
January 2022
The state pauses program implementation while pursuing legal action in federal court.
August 2022
A federal judge rules in favor of the Kemp administration, allowing the program, as originally approved, to move forward.
July 2023
The state launches the Pathways to Coverage program.
February 2024
The Kemp administration files a lawsuit in federal court to extend the program implementation timeline.
July 2024
A federal judge dismisses the Kemp administration's lawsuit and says the state must follow the rules for obtaining an extension of the program.
August 2024
Department of Community Health launches a Pathways to Coverage awareness campaign
November 2024
In November, CMS approves the program’s evaluation program design. The next month, the third party evaluator, Public Consulting Group, releases an interim report.
September 2025
In September, the program expires (according to the original timeline) unless the state submits a continuation.
January 2024
The Kemp administration announces that the program renewal application, if approved by the federal government by September 2025, will include a new qualifying activity option that will allow parents/guardians of children 0-6 to be eligible for the program.
